BOX 758 GREELEY,COLORADO 80631 WI I • COLORADO October 17, 1974 Mr. F. E. Kummer, Secretary Eaton Fire Protection District Eaton, Colorado 80615 Dear Mr. Kummer, This letter is in answer to yours of October 12th regarding fire protection regulations in the County. Mr. Fagerberg inquired if he could postpone installing of fire hydrants until a new 6" water line was put in, which we understand is to be placed along his subdivision. Our answer to his inquiry was that if there was not considerable time involved in construction of the new water line greatly delaying his meeting of County regulations, we felt it would be acceptable to wait, avoiding duplication of efforts and costs and working with inadequate water. However, no definite answer was given to Mr. Fagerberg. We do have a County-wide policy concerning not only fire hydrants in new subdivisions but also style and type of fire plugs, and circumference of cul de sacs. Compliance with these regulations must be approved not only by the County but also the fire district involved. This has been a uniform code in Weld County for approximately two years. The Planning Commission is to always involve the particular fire district's needs and regulations . I hope this letter has answered your questions; if not, please call me. AL. 2s Glenn K. Billings, Commissioner Board of Weld County Commissioners 740458 GKB/ck v O00(oo WELD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HARRY S. ASHLEY GLENN K. BILLINGS EATON FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT EATON, COLORADO October 12, 197k Board of County Commissioners Weld County Court House Greeley, Colorado Gentlemen: We have been contacted in a round-about way that the Weld County Planning Commission has told Mr. Fagerberg that since our district is purchasing a large water truck that fire hydrants would not be necessary in his proposed development. We are disappointed with this ruling. The water truck planned is in NO WAY meant to be a sole means of water at any fire. It is meant to be supplimental water supplies. A truck of this nature would NOT furnish ample water to fight a serious fire. Therefore we still want as much water as possible near buildings and so forth. In fac;we are of the opinion that developments such as Pinachle Park should be advised to install hydrants near their homes. We also feel that this action is passing the buck. We are of the opinion that the Planning Commission and the Weld County Commis- sioners should set a policy for the entire county in the matter of fire protection water, raad availability and so forth. A uniform code would not be out of the way, but to rule on one individual means more problems later on. If through no other means, the commissioners should ask presidents of each district to aid in a policy develppment in order that rules and regulations be the same throughout the county. This would also pave the way for better fire fighting in Weld County. Also we of this board feel that matters concerning our district should go through the office of the secretary or president, for the board ib responsible by law for proper fire protection--not the firemen or their chief.
