Gentlemen :
You will find attached hereto a petition from property owners
and residents within the Mead, Colorado area, which is self-explanatory .
We should like to remind you that , during an extended period
in the fall months of 1971 , this road was in a deplorable condition as a
consequence of a ridge of gravel in the middle of the same , caused by
grader maintenance of the road. It is not necessary to inform you that
this condition was a definite threat to the health , welfare and safety of
those who travelled this road.
We respectfully request , at this time , that you cooperate with
all of us relative to the recommendations contained within our petition.

PETITION
To: THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF WELD COUNTY
We , the undersigned , hereby entreat and solicit your cooperation
in the instance of surfacing that part of the Weld County highway system which
extends from ,the Liberty Hall Grange north to the Mead Road. We call your at-
tention to the fact that this same road is paved from the Mead Road north and
beyond the Highland Reservoir area.
We point out the fact that this particular section of road, which
intersects with Colorado State Highway No. 66, carries an awesome amount of
traffic since it is the carrier to the Highland Lake recreation area and , in
addition , it is the carrier for many commuters who live in the area , as well as
for school buses , farm tractors , passenger cars and other types of vehicles.
Further, we point out that this gravel road creates a tremendous dust problem
for those who live adjacent to it.
It is our sincere and just request , therefore, that your immediate
attention be afforded to the surfacing of this section of road, either by an
asphalt mat or by a sealing and chipping program, which would result in its vast
improvement as a carrier and , at the same time , would eliminate the problem of
grader maintenance as well as the necessity of dust abatement.
