GOLF CLUB
March 25, 2020
Dear Weld County Commissioners,
My name is Lanna O'Malley, owner of Saddleback Golf Club in Firestone. I am
writing to ask you to consider excepting small groups to engage in outdoor physical
and social activities (which would include golf courses) provided they stay 6' apart in
the event that there is a stay at home order issued.
Golf is an open-air activity and provides a valuable respite to people staying at home.
We have over 250 acres; and at any given time, not more than 144 golfers on the
property. It is not difficult to maintain social distancing while golfing. Mental health
is critical during this uncertain time, and golf provides a way for individuals living
alone to connect in a safe way.
Many courses are privately owned small businesses. We, of course, don't have the
ability to maintain either our workforce or our property without income. This has also
come at a particularly difficult time because of the seasonality of golf. Most of us are
out of cash by March.
We are taking actions to ensure health and safety are priority during the COVID-19
outbreak. We have many professional partners (including PGA, CGA, NGCOA,
GCSAA) who are providing recommendations and advice on how we can safely
provide an outdoor break for people. Part of our proactive steps include:
• Increasing the frequency of daily cleaning
• Sanitizing carts after each round
• Removal of hand-held items
o Sand bottles
o Bunker rakes
o Scorecards/pencils
• Raising cups so no handling of flagpoles
• Removal of ball washers/water coolers/etc.
• Individual carts for people not in same household
• Encouraged to pay by cc — no signatures (pens)
• Restaurant closed — no available seating

• No seating available on patio — golf and go home
• Daily assessment of employee health — taking daily temperatures
• Frequent cleaning common surface areas
• Additional barriers at counter to maintain 6' of social distance
• Doors are propped open
• PPE for employees handling food or cleaning
• Increased distance between bays at driving range
• After play, golfers dump trash in open trash bins provided, then park carts in
designated area and go home
• No congregating allowed
• Additional training for staff
• Appropriate signage and messaging
We respect the need to protect the public from COVID-19; while also appreciating the
importance of outdoor activities for both physical and emotional well-being. I would
be glad to show you the property at any time if you would like to personally get a
sense of how we can operate safely.
Thank you in advance for your consideration,
Lanna O'Malley
