,' to the 19th century. Following the Homestead Act of 1862, settlers arrived in '
Weld County and sought to transform what was referred to by explorers as "the
Great American Desert" intoprime agricultural land for livestock t.. grazing and f

growing of crops; and
WHEREAS, the perseverance of those early settlers to enrich agriculture has `
c continued through the years. We are proud to be a Right to Farm county and

\j' r , proud of our agricultural heritage. Of the more than 4,000 farms in Weld County, i j
76 are Centennial Farms and Ranches. They serve as a testament to the !s sII� determination and perseverance of families to continue providing a sustainable I
,k g food source to the public despite many hardships and uncertainties over the „Y %
years; and

1 WHEREAS, this dedication to farming and ranching has established Weld aa .l
" , I County's agricultural industry as one of the best in the nation. As the state's .4---1r
leading producer of beef, poultry, sheep, goats and milk, Weld County ranks 1
, t eighth in the country for the total market value of agricultural products sold, 4t ' ,
