HomeMy WebLinkAbout20203465.tiffWHEREAS, Deputy Sam Brownlee honorably served the citizens of Weld County as a Sheriff's Deputy beginning January 16th of 2006; and WHEREAS, law enforcement officers routinely respond to dangerous situations where they risk their own safety to defend and protect others, Sam Brownlee responded to a call for service for an incident involving a suspect who was fleeing arrest for a domestic violence incident on November 23rd of 2010; and WHEREAS, it is known that Deputy Sam Brownlee ultimately lost his life at the hand of said suspect as he was attempting to subdue the individual; and WHEREAS, it is further known that while Deputy Sam Brownlee paid the ultimate sacrifice while performing his duties as a Weld County Sheriff's Deputy, his legacy has been one of change and improvement that continually betters the services provided by the Weld County Sheriff's Office; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners calls upon all citizens in Weld County to continually remember and show their appreciation for the Peace Officers of this county by deed, remark, and attitude. The Board also desires to show its support for law enforcement and honor Deputy Sam Brownlee's legacy by providing a reminder of his service at a place where future Sheriff's Deputies will receive training for the foreseeable future. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Weld County Commissioners does hereby proclaim on this 23rd day of November, 2020, that the future site of the Weld County Law Enforcement Training Facility will formally be named the Sam Brownlee Training Center in honor of Deputy Sam Brownlee.
