Weld County currently maintains this paved section of roadway. There are no existing speed limit signs posted for eastbound traffic. There is one 35 MPH speed limit sign for westbound traffic approximately 1/4 mile west of Hwy 85. 4 traffic counts have been completed on this segment of roadway since 2011. The results of those counts were: Date AADT 85th % Speed % Trucks 8/22/2019 834 52 MPH 19% 10/13/2016 1,051 53 MPH 16% 10/9/2013 774 56 MPH 21% 1/28/2011 635 55 MPH 9% Those counts found the average 85th percentile speed on this roadway to be 54 MPH. Using my engineering judgement, I believe the proper speed limit for the WCR 66 would be 50 MPH. What options exist for the Board? (include consequences, impacts, costs, etc. of options): • Approve the installation of 50 MPH Speed Limit signs for this road segment. o 2 sign installations are estimated to cost $500 ($250 apiece) • Deny the installation of Speed Limit signs for this road segment. o Speed limit will be reposted according to Resolution 00690049 dated 7/30/1969 (see attached) Recommendation: Staff recommends posting the speed limit on WCR 66 between WCR 37 and Hwy 85 to 50 MPH.
