WHEREAS, the Eaton Reds softball team competed at the Class 3A state softball
tournament the week of October 6. The Reds won three consecutive games to advance to
the championship game in Aurora on October 10; and
WHEREAS, senior third baseman Jennifer Jarnagan hit a home run and scored two runs,
while freshman pitcher Sadie Ross struck out 12 to beat Lutheran 5-1 and capture the state
title; and
WHEREAS, the victory speaks to the resilience of the softball team in not losing sight of a
goal. After the Reds lost in the championship game in 2015 and 2018, Eaton seniors Alexis
Schmitt, Yaritza Puente, Jaymie Woody, and Jarnagan achieved their goal of winning the
softball program's first state title in school history; and
WHEREAS, the win capped off a stellar season for the Reds who went 18-2 and recorded
the softball team's ninth consecutive winning season.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Commissioners in Weld
County, Colorado, that in honor of the determination, perseverance and hard work shown
by players, coaches and parents to win Eaton's first softball championship, Monday,
November 2, 2020, be known as Eaton Reds Day.
