WHEREAS, in 1982, the first complete skull of a Triceratops found in Colorado was s
discovered on the Mapelli Ranch near Briggsdale in Weld County by then University of A
bYT Colorado Professor Dr. Ken Carpenter and then graduate student Emmett Evanoff— who is " '
, now an Associate Professor of Geology at the University of Northern Colorado, and z.' i'- _) (I' `-:
WHEREAS, in 1985, Weld County Commissioners voted to name the Triceratops as the i"
county's official fossil, and county employees named the fossil "Pops", and RO

WHEREAS, in 1986, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Mapelli, owners of the land upon which the ki,
ti Tricerato s fossil was found, donated the fossil to Weld County Y iiik ,

�'� e condition it be on display in a county building for all residents to view and enjoy, and \

WHEREAS, the opportunity to have the fossil temporarily moved to the Denver Museum of -it)
