Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment Second Floor Hearing Room 210 The Weld County Board of Health met on February 25, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. in the second -floor hearing room of the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment. Those present included: Board Members: Nicholas Berryman, Tim Annable, Fred Hepner, James Kuemmerle, Katerie Lauck, Joyce Smock and Jeff Reck. Others: Katie Sall & Lauren Light Environmental Health Services- Tanya Geiser Health Administration- Public- UNC Nursing Student. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM. A motion was made by Tim Annable to approve the agenda as presented. James Kuemmerle seconded the motion and the motion was carried unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Jeff Reck to approve minutes from January 28, 2020 meeting. Joyce Smock seconded the motion and the motion was carried unanimously. BUSINESS Biosolids Renewals Veris Environmental, LLC- Katie Sall presented 12 biosolids renewal applications. No public comments or concerns were received. Environmental Health recommends approval. DS -201105, DS -201108, DS -201203, DS -201204, DS -201314, DS -201321, DS -201326, DS - 1800001, DS -1800002, DS -1800003, DS -1800004 and DS -1900004. A motion was made by Fred Hepner to approve the renewals. Tim Annable seconded the motion and the motion was carried unanimously. PRESENTATIONS Eric Aakko- — Director Health Education & Planning — Update accreditation process We are working on our 2021 PHAB Accreditation. Strengthening Health Departments to Better Serve their Communities. Quality Improvement- We no longer are a good health department, but rather a great health department that now embraces the concept of continuous performance improvement in the 21St century. Co MM,un . Go.+-; onS 03M/20 2020-0784 Partnerships- We are proud of all our partnerships, but especially our multi -sector health improvements partnership. Accountability- A more accountable organization. Workforce- Accreditation has improved their health department's ability to identify and address gaps in employee training and workforce development. Resources- Since becoming accredited, the utilization of resources within the health department has improved. Was asked by a board member what improvements have we made since last year. Quality improvement- Fixing broken things and Workforce development- retaining good employees. Valerie Smith — Communicable Disease Program- 2019 Novel Coronavirus Val gave us an update on the coronavirus. Passed out a fact sheet on what the public should do. Gave a presentation on infection and the virus: How infections are Spread- Virus, Bacteria, Protozo (fungus) Human Coronavirus- How it spreads, incubation period, Symptoms, infectious period, prevention and treatment. Zoonotic Diseases- Diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans. We now at epidemic potential- This is a CDC Health Advisory. Virus now being called COVID-19. Spread- droplets when infected person coughs, sneezes ortalks, kissing, hugging and shaking hands. Incubation period- 2 to 14 days Symptoms- lower respiratory tract, fever, cough and shortness of breath Prevention- lots of handwashing with soap and water and hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your mouth, nose, or eyes with unwashed hands. Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces. Treatment- Take pain/fever medication, stay hydrated, gets los of rest. A motion by James Kuemmerle to adjourn the meeting and was seconded by Tim Annable. Meeting was adjourned at 10:20 am. Next meeting is Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
