HomeMy WebLinkAbout20203856.tiffEATON REDS DAY WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2020 WHEREAS, the Eaton Reds took on the Lamar Savages in the Class 2A football state championship on Friday, December 4, at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo; and WHEREAS, Eaton's offense, defense and special teams shined. After senior running back Juan Maravilla scored from six yards out in the first quarter, the Reds never gave up the lead for the remainder of the game; and WHEREAS, The Reds' special teams and defense came up big in the victory. A blocked punt by junior Ryan Dirksen set up a scoring play for senior Tanner True. Later in the third quarter, Maravilla scored his second touchdown of the afternoon; and WHEREAS, after two Lamar scores cut Eaton's lead to 21-14, junior cornerback Brogan Barr returned an interception 57 yards for a touchdown to put the Reds up 28-14. In the game's final minutes, a sack by sophomore defensive end Morgan Tribbett and a recovered fumble by Dirksen secured the 28-21 state championship win for the Reds; and WHEREAS, the state championship is Eaton's second in program history and first in 20 years. With the win, the Reds also avenged a 2019 playoff loss to Lamar. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that in honor of a memorable championship win, the board congratulates Eaton High School, its football players, coaches, and parents by proclaiming Wednesday, December 23, 2020, Eaton Reds Day.
