The property is approximately 1.25 acres in size and is occupied by an existing single family residence. According to the Weld County webs ite, the residence was constructed in 1962 and has a footprint of approximately 1,244 square feet. The residence also has a basement. The surrounding properties include commercial industrial ground to the north and northeast. A small single-family residential neighborhood is located immediately west of the site. Across the County Road to the south more commercial and/or light industrial development was observed. Northern Colorado Geotech has completed provided geotechnical engineering reports for structures and developments within approximately 1/2 -mile of this site. We have found the general soil profile to consist of several feet of sandy lean clay and/or clayey sand. The upper level soils are generally underlain by poorly and/or well graded sand with silt and gravel. We also reviewed the soil survey of Weld County, Colorado. According to the soil survey, the site is underlain by the Dacono clay loam. Typically this layer includes approximately 2 feet of clay loam soil that is underlain by gravelly sand soil. The subject site is located within the Great Plains physiographic raph is province. The Colorado Piedmont is located near the western border of the Great Plains province and was formed during Late Tertiary and Early Quaternary time (approximately 2,000, 000 years ago) . The Colorado Piedmont is a broad, erosional trench which separates the Southern Rocky Mountains from the High Plains. Structurally, the site lies on the western flank of the Denver Basin, During the mountain building of the Laramide Orogeny (approximately 70, 000,000 years ago), intense tectonic activity occurred, causing the uplifting of the Front Range and associated downwarping of the Denver Basin to the east. Due to the erosional action of wind and streams, relatively flat uplands and broad valleys characterize the present-day topography of the Colorado Piedmont in this region. Oligocene alluvial deposits are located near the surface. The site is underlain by the Cretaceous Laramie Formation. The Laramie consists of interbedded sandstone, siltstone and claystone deposits. The Laramie also contains significant coal seams in southern Weld County and Boulder County. Mineral and Aggregate Evaluation 12687 Weld County Road 2.5 Brighton, Colorado Northern Colorado Geotech Project No. 11249 Page 2 of 4 Based on our site reconnaissance, a literature review and our experience with similar sized parcels, it is our opinion that there are no economic deposits of sand or gravel at the site. While sand and gravel may underlie the upper level site soils, the approximately 1.25 acre size of the site does not allow for the proper site setbacks and working space to establish an aggregate mining operation. It it is our opinion that there are no economic quantities of quarry rock or minerals available at the site, Based on the review of maps in the area, we are unaware of coal mines in the immediate vicinity of the site, Therefore, it is our opinion that the property does not contain economic deposits of aggregate, quarry rock or minerals.
