Senate Bill 181 also greatly impacted oil and gas production in the county. The department was created by the Board of County Commissioners on July 8, 2019, and opened August 5, 2019. It firmly established local control over mineral resources in unincorporated Weld County — delegation of local control was included in SB 181. The department is responsible for permitting, regulating and enforcing surface regulations related to oil and gas locations It is staffed with 12 employees who are responsible for the enforcement of county regulations which ensure the health, safety and welfare of the public and the environment For his full presentation, please see Addendum 1.
