Dear Governor Polis,
It our understanding from discussions with your office and the Attorney General that Executive Order 2020 012, which
allows County Treasurers to waive delinquent interest for delinquent tax payment through October 31, 2020, expires
April 20, 2020.
We are aware you are considering a new executive order on the subject that will specifically preclude County Treasurers
from waiving delinquency interest after April 30, 2020. Instead, they will allow first half payment to be on April 30th
and second half on June 15th.
The Board of Weld County Commissioners does not believe the proposal will provide the needed relief to taxpayers
experiencing financial challenges during the COVID 19 economic downturn. We would encourage you first to consider
extending Executive Order 2020 012 in thirty -day intervals until October 31, 2020.1f this is not an option, we would like
to suggest at least allowing first half property tax payments to be on April 30th and second half on August 15th, which
has the effect of extending the second half deadline the same number of months as the first half. This will give taxpayers
in need two months longer to economically recover.
The Board of Weld County Commissioners would appreciate your favorable consideration of our proposed options.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
