HomeMy WebLinkAbout20201108.tiffApril 10, 2020 Dear Weld County Commissioners: I would like to state my opinion for the record. First, please understand that I am not a radical or affiliated with any special interest groups — I am only concerned with the health of Weld County citizens. I am not opposed to fracking — I understand that it brings jobs and revenue to Weld County. I am only opposed to the location of certain wells — namely, those that could potentially be dangerous to citizens of Weld County. In particular, fracking sites that are near schools. We all know that VOC's are released during fracking operations, and while no one knows what levels are toxic or harmful, why not err on the side of caution for Weld County's most vulnerable population, the children? If you agree with me that children are our most valuable resource, you may agree that while gas and oil are important resources, they must come after the health and well-being of Weld County citizens. Therefore, I would like to propose banning fracking near school sites. There are many other sites available, I don't see why oil companies MUST choose sites near schools. Another thing puzzling me is that fracking companies boast they can now drill laterally up to three miles underground, so why don't they do it? They can still access the gas and oil without disturbing a school site. Please, commissioners, consider the small price of banning just a few specific fracking sites to protect our children from harmful pollutants. In light of all the other daunting health challenges we face today, this would be a step in the right direction. Cordially yours, Tim Barc 1308 84th Ave. Greeley, CO 80634 Cow -min: Ga-F;on 5 I-I/20/2.O 2020-1108 Hello
