HomeMy WebLinkAbout751062.tiff 0 0 FINANCE AND TAXATION COMMITTEE Saturday, December 28, 1974 The Taxation and Finance Committee held a meeting on Saturday, December 28, 1974, at 1 :30 P. M. , in the Commissioners' Board Room at the Public Health Building. Members present were: Chairman - Ralph Waldo, Jr. Walter L. Bain Harold Fahrenbruch, Bob E. White Members absent were: Edward L. Dunbar The committee had a discussion to determine the extent of the study for this committee. They decided to hold three meetings to discuss problems of how in-depth their study should be. These meetings are scheduled for: January 8, 1975 - Wednesday - at 7:30 P.M. in the Commissioners' Board Room Scheduled for this meeting are the County Assessor and Treasurer. They will discuss taxation of severed mineral interests and the functions of their offices, and how they can be freed from the state. January 11, 1975 - Saturday - at 9:30 A.M. , in the Commissioners' Board Room. Scheduled for this meeting are Barton Buss and the County Commissioners' . The committee would like to discuss the ad valorem tax and the feasability of some other kind of tax besides the ad valorem. They would also like to discuss Welfare. Ralph Waldo, Jr. , will contact Palmer Burch or Clark Bucker and ask them to be present at this meeting to inform the committee and discuss taxation with them. January 11, 1975 - Saturday - at 12:00 P.M. - The committee is planning a lunch meeting with William West to obtain answers to questions concerning taxation. January 11, 1975 - Saturday - at 1 :30 P.M. - The committee will meet with Barton Buss and the County Auditor and are planning an in-depth discussion on procedures and budget control. They would also like to discuss the question of an independent auditor not appointed by the Commissioners' . The committee discussed county business in general. Commissioner Glenn Billings dropped in and answered many questions concerning the audit and Welfare procedures; hiring of welfare staff and the method of setting and paying wages; budget procedures. �,� /062 0 0 The committee also studied human resources; meals on wheels; home health care; county attorneys; method of paying them and the procedures other counties used in this matter. At this meeting on Saturday, January 11, 1975, the committee will make a decision on whether or not they want to go further into any of these studies. The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 P.M.
