WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to r Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charger, is vested with the authority of �:� �1 administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and i �Jy',gt•,,z 4 WHEREAS, the prevalence of fossils along Colorado's Front Range enables paleontologists ' around the world the opportunity to learn about the history of our area, and �. • 41'1.WHEREAS, the Denver Basin, which extends from northern Colorado to Colorado Springs, ,c contains one of the best records of the extinction of dinosaurs 66 million years ago and the �- ecosystems that flourished here, according to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, JI and ` " � ;Ail I WHEREAS, Weld County was gifted, by the family of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Mapelli, the first ' k` complete Triceratops skull found in the state, with the condition the fossil remain on '.:\:,\,) c 6 ° display in a county building for the public to enjoy, and C k �__ WHEREAS, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and Weld County Government have : � ' 4 is';.:, K�' agreed to a project that will allow the museum borrow the fossil for study and restoration 3' '-',.,ta and then return it to Weld County to fulfill the wishes of the Mapelli family, and .
