RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE ON NESTING CRANE
LANE SOUTH OF STATE HIGHWAY 66
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS,the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the Board
that a 30 miles per hour (MPH) Speed Limit sign be installed on Nesting Crane Lane south of
State Highway 66, to ensure safety to the traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Board has determined that said traffic control device is necessary for the
protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works, be, and hereby is, directed to install
a 30 miles per hour (MPH) Speed Limit sign on Nesting Crane Lane south of State Highway 66,
for the safety of the general public, and said sign shall conform to the State Manual of Uniform
Traffic Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 22nd day of February, A.D., 2021.

SUBJECT: Installation of Speed Limit sign on Nesting Crane Ln.
Please place this request for the installation of a regulatory sign on the next available BOCC
agenda.
This request is for the installation of a 30 MPH Speed Limit sign on Nesting Crane Ln. The sign
will be placed facing southbound traffic near the entrance of the subdivision just south of St.
Hwy 66.
PW will have someone in attendance at the BOCC meeting to answer any questions that may
come up.

Brief description of the problem/issue:
A citizen living within the Nested Crane Subdivision was requesting a speed limit sign be placed as traffic
enters Nested Crane Lane off of SH 66. There is no speed limit sign on this single subdivision roadway which
has a cul-de-sac about a 3/8 mile south of SH 66. Per the subdivision plans and information, a speed limit sign
was not required therefore,the developer did not install one.
The most resent traffic counts were taken in July 2017 there were 48 AADT with the 85th percentile speed
being 28mph. Public Works maintains Nested Crane Lane.
Public Works staff would recommend a 30mph speed limit be installed per the MUTCD specifications. This
speed limit would follow the MUTCD guidelines based on the 85th percentile and State Statue for residential
streets which is 30mph.
What options exist for the Board? (include consequences, impacts,costs,etc. of options):
1. Agree to have Public Works install 30mph speed limit sign on Nested Crane Lane.
2. Schedule a work session with staff to discuss further.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends Public Works installs a 30mph speed limit sign per MUTCD specifications.
