FOSTER CARE MONTH - MAY 2021
WHEREAS, we recognize and appreciate our dedicated Weld County foster and kinship caregivers, faith -
based and community organizations, and child welfare professionals who are building stronger
communities and improving the lives of children, youth and families by tirelessly providing advocacy,
nurturing and unwavering care; and
WHEREAS, we acknowledge, with immense gratitude, the tremendous sacrifices made by Weld County
foster and kinship families as they open their hearts and homes to the 436 infants, children and youth
currently in foster and kinship care, especially the heroic families who provide care for children and teens
with complex medical and challenging psychological and behavioral needs while navigating the additional
complexities and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, this critical investment in their well-being, safety and sense of belonging brings essential
hope to children, youth and families when they need it most; and
WHEREAS, this month is an opportunity to raise awareness about our greatest needs for foster families
being families for older children and youth, sibling groups, and children with special needs and to
encourage residents to bring help and healing to our county's most vulnerable children, youth and families
by becoming a foster parent or by offering support and encouragement to foster and kinship families in
our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that May 2021
be known as Foster Care Month in Weld County. We call upon the residents of Weld County to observe
this month by taking time to encourage and support children and youth in foster and kinship care, the
families working toward reunification, and to recognize the commitment of those who touch their lives,
especially honoring and celebrating foster and kinship parents and our dedicated child welfare
