HomeMy WebLinkAbout20212601.tiffocifo PROCLAMATION NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH SEPTEMBER 2021 WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month, recognized every September, serves as a reminder to Weld County residents about the importance of preparing themselves, their families, their homes and their businesses for any type of emergency. Most often, emergencies include severe weather events and natural disasters; and WHEREAS, Weld County stretches nearly 4,000 square miles, leads the nation in tornado activity, has its fair share of rain, lightning and hailstorms — evidenced by the severe weather that occurred June 28 through July 3 — and as we were shown last March, can experience heavy snowfall. This, combined with the COVID-19 pandemic and the 20th anniversary of 9/11, brings heightened importance to the need to prepare for emergencies; and WHEREAS, emergency preparedness is the responsibility of every citizen, and making emergency plans, developing preparedness kits and taking time to learn about the impact of different emergencies is key to protecting the people we love and the things we value; and WHEREAS, those who have never created emergency preparedness plans or kits can find resources on the "Community Preparedness Information and Guides" webpage at www.weldoem.com and the "Make a Plan" webpage www.readv.gov. Residents can also follow Weld County's Facebook and Twitter pages for emergency preparedness tips throughout the month of September. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that September 2021 is National Preparedness Month. We encourage all residents to take time to learn about the different types of emergency situations they may face to ensure that they remain safe and have the tools needed to lessen the impact of future emergency events. 2021-2601 Hello
