Dear Mr. Willis,
Weld County is pleased to support the Town of Erie's grant application to the Colorado Department of
Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Management ("DHSEM") as part of the FY
2021 Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities ("BRIC") Mitigation Project Grant for the
reduction of hazardous flooding from Coal Creek in the vicinity of County Line Road.
Located in both Weld and Boulder Counties, the Town is experiencing accelerated growth, as is the
community's tributary to Coal Creek upstream of Erie, much like the rest of the Front Range. Erie's
Engineering Division performs the engineering reviews for all Erie developments, and manages public
infrastructure improvements, which has identified the need for improvements to Coal Creek as part of their
five-year Capital Improvement plan. The Town Board of Trustees has approved the 2022 budget, which
includes the design for improvements for this section of Coal Creek.
Erie's Engineering Division will lead the design and construction of improvements to Coal Creek in order
to reduce the risk of future flood damage to existing structures in Weld and Boulder Counties. With grant
assistance from DHSEM, the funding for construction of the needed improvements will be possible.
This project is important to Weld County because it will remove approximately 26 homes located in
unincorporated Weld County from the floodplain. In addition, this project would provide a more resilient
County Line Road corridor during future flood events.
Weld County hopes you can see the intrinsic value of this very important regional flood control project and
hopes the state will partner with Erie on funding this very important grant application.

Board of Commissioners of Weld County
