The service and sacrifice they've shown in defense of the United States and the Constitution is directly responsible for the freedoms we're able to enjoy as Americans. Such a commitment fills us with pride; and WHEREAS, our pride also extends to the ways in which Weld County Government serves veterans. Employment Services of Weld County serves as a crucial link between veterans and the job market by assisting eligible veterans and their spouses with job training and job placement while the Weld County Department of Veterans Services helps with the process of applying for benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs — an effort that is critical in ensuring eligible veterans and their families receive the benefits they've earned as a result of military service; and WHEREAS, Veterans Day was enacted by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 to honor veterans. And while it's impossible to ever fully repay our veterans, it's our duty as citizens to always remember the important role they've had in defending our country and keeping us safe and free. NOW, THEREFORE, let it be known that in honor of Veterans Day, November 11, 2021, the Board of Weld County Commissioners does hereby call upon the citizens of Weld County to make a commitment in honoring our veterans, and by doing so, reaffirms our strong appreciation for and belief in the United States Constitution, and all who have fought to defend it.
