Brief description of the problem/issue:
We have been contacted (letter attached) by 11t" Judicial District about purchase of a couple of our vehicles
that are ready to go to auction. Staying with prior process of trying to help other governmental agencies when
possible, we are asking if you would accept the offer. The amount of $3,000 per vehicle is in line with what we
would expect to receive from placing these items up for auction.
What options exist for the Board? (include consequences, impacts, costs, etc. of options):
1) Accept the offer
2) Reject the offer and send vehicles to auction
Recommendation:

TO: David Springer, Barb Connolly, and the County Commissioners of Weld County
FROM: Aaron Ordway, Criminal Investigator and Fleet Manager
DATE: September 30, 2021
SUBJECT: Used patrol car purchase
To whom it may concern,
I am writing with the intent to purchase 2 used patrol vehicles from the Weld County Sheriff's
Office:
1FAHP2MT4FG159608: 2015 Ford Taurus 97,038 miles
1GVSK2E00CR313418: 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe 137,200 miles
Both cars will be assigned to my Criminal Investigations unit, operated by P.O.S.T.
certified/commissioned Law Enforcement Officers in the performance of their duties,
investigating criminal offenses for the Office of the District Attorney.
I am offering $3,000 per car, $6,000 total. As a condition of the purchase the cars will never be
sold for more than we purchase them for, and if/when they are sold all law enforcement
equipment will be stripped from the vehicle unless the car is sold/donated to another law
enforcement agency. If the amounts offered are not enough, please do not hesitate to reach
out, as I do have some flexibility in my purchase budget.
Thank you for your time and consideration, and if there is ever anything the District Attorney's
Office for the 11th Judicial District can do for the citizens and/or employees of Weld County, it
would be our pleasure to help.
