HomeMy WebLinkAbout20211035.tiffPROCLAMATION PLATTE VALLEY BRONCOS DAY WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14, 2021 WHEREAS, The Platte Valley Broncos faced the Lutheran Lions in the Class 3A girls basketball state championship game on Saturday, March 20, at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs; and WHEREAS, in a nip -and -tuck battle throughout, Platte Valley fought hard in the first half, taking a narrow 22-19 lead into halftime; and WHEREAS, despite Lutheran pulling ahead in the third quarter, Platte Valley didn't back down. Junior guard Cora Shissler led all scorers with 15 points and sophomore Andi Shissler recorded eight. Junior Cassie Ridings scored six, while Brooke and Bree Bunting added 22 points combined; and WHEREAS, the consistent teamwork and will to outlast Lutheran in a back -and -forth game paid off as the Broncos outscored their opponent 19-10 in the fourth quarter to earn a 51-44 victory along with the Class 3A state championship; and WHEREAS, the win caps a 16-1 season for Platte Valley. The state championship is the first for the girls basketball team since 2004. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that today, Wednesday, April 14, 2021, be known as Platte Valley Broncos Day, in honor of the perseverance, dedication, and teamwork shown by team members, coaches and parents in winning the state championship.
