RE: ITEMIZED LIST OF LEGAL HOLIDAYS DURING CALENDAR YEAR 2022
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, following is a list of holidays proposed for 2022 as days off for Weld County
employees:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld
County, Colorado, that the list of holidays as set forth above shall be observed during the calendar
year of 2022 as days off for Weld County employees.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 8th day of September, A.D., 2021.

Brief description of the problem/issue:
Attached is the proposed schedule of holidays for calendar year 2022, as well as the rules for choosing the
appropriate days. I've drafted the Resolution with my recommendation to use the Floating Holiday (Colorado
Day) in conjunction with July 4, 2021 (Independence Day).
What options exist for the Board? (include consequences, impacts, costs, etc. of options):
1) Concur with Clerk's recommended schedule utilizing floating holiday (Colorado Day) in conjunction with
July 4th (Independence Day).
2) Select alternate date for use of floating holiday.
Recommendation:
Direct Clerk to list proposed schedule (Option 1) on next available Agenda.

State removed Colorado Day in 1986 (was third Monday In August); County elected to use as
a floating holiday
County changed to float with Christmas in 1986.
Election Day — Prior to 1986, County took off every other year. Deleted when other changes made.
Per Personnel Policy: If holiday falls on a Saturday — day off is on preceding Friday.
If holiday falls on a Sunday — day off is on following Monday.

The following are the legal holidays for the calendar year 2022:

Monday, January 17, 2022 - Martin Luther King Day
Monday, February 21, 2022 - President's Day
Monday, May 30, 2022 - Memorial Day
Monday, June 20, 2022 — Juneteenth Day*
Monday, July 4, 2022 - Independence Day
Monday, September 5, 2022 - Labor Day
Monday, October 3, 2022 - Frances Cabrini Day* *
Friday, November 11, 2022 - Veterans Day
Thursday, November 24, 2022 - Thanksgiving Day
Monday, December 26, 2022 - Christmas Day*
Administrative Authorities have the discretion to grant requests for Cesar
Chavez Day (March 31st) in lieu of another holiday within the same fiscal
year. When granting such requests, the court or probation department must
be open and minimally operational on both days (holiday and March 31st)
and employees must be able to perform work.
* Weekend holidays are observed on either Monday or Friday, whichever
day is closest. Therefore, the 2022 New Year's Day holiday will be
observed, Friday, December 31st, 2021.
**The State of Colorado no longer observes Columbus Day as an official
holiday. It now observes Frances Cabrini Day, which will be observed on
the first Monday of October.
