Re: Consideration of alternative funding options for Segment 5, I-25 expansion project
Dear Chair Hall,
The Weld County Board of County Commissioners would like to support HPTE's efforts towards
securing funding for North I-25. While the intent of the passage of SB21-260 was to provide a
stable transportation funding source for Colorado, it is clear we still need to continue to look at all
available financing options to complete the funding gap of North 1-25, segment 5. Without the
third (managed) lane, this 6.1 -mile gap will force travelers to go from three lanes to two lanes then
back to three lanes creating significant safety and congestion issues for northern Colorado.
Considering I -25's importance of statewide significance, the expansion of North I-25 should
remain a top funding priority project for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
Segment 5 is identified in year 5 of CDOT's 10 -year plan evert though the funding for it has not
been committed. Weld County supports CDOT's consideration of utilizing public private
partnerships (3P) opportunities and working with HPTE to advance the unsolicited ROADIS
proposal to its conclusion. We ask that CDOT follows its procurement process to further analyze
this funding mechanism and the completion of this very important freight corridor.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSION S
