ROOSEVELT ROUGHRIDERS DAY
NOVMEBER 22, 2021
WHEREAS, on May 14, 2021, Roosevelt High School's FFA Dairy Cattle Judging Team took 1st
place at the State Dairy Cattle Judging Career Development Event (CDE) at Colorado State
University; and
WHEREAS, the Dairy Cattle Judging CDE helps students develop skills in dairy cattle selection.
During the daylong event, participants evaluated six classes of four dairy cattle to see which cow
would produce the best milk based on physical characteristics. Oral reasons, where participants
defend why they ranked two classes of cattle a certain way, were also given in front of judges.
Finally, team members completed a general knowledge exam covering various dairy management
and industry -related topics; and
WHEREAS, students who participate in the State Dairy Cattle Judging CDE gain a greater
understanding of dairy cattle management and production characteristics. FFA students serve as
the future of our agricultural industry; and
WHEREAS, the team of four, consisting of Brady Hopkins, Codi LaBorde, Phoebe Jenkins and
Ellie Stratton competed against 17 FFA Dairy Cattle Judging teams to garner 1st place at the state
level. Roosevelt went on to compete at the National FFA Convention October 27-30, in
Indianapolis, where the Roughriders took home team honors in the bronze category as well as
individual silver and bronze honors; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that in
recognition of Roosevelt's state championship, participation at nationals, as well as the work ethic
and knowledge put forth by the FFA advisor and students, November 22, 2021, be known as
Roosevelt Roughriders Day.
