We are writing this collectively as a husband and wife regarding interactions we have had with
the city of Greeley Mayor .John Gates and Weld County's Commissioners and Deputy Director
of Department of Public Health and Environment Mark Lawley. In this age of citizens too quick
to blame and hate before knowing the truth, we now always ask non -accusatory questions of
government leaders to concerns we have. We did so in two different incidences and feel they
need to be highlighted.
We grew up in Greeley and are 1980 and 1981 graduates of Greeley West High School. We
have not lived in the area for well over 30 years, but both of our mothers still live in Greeley.
Our first encounter was concern we had regarding a slow distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine
for one of our moms. After contacting the County Commissioners and the Department of Public
Health and Environment, we were called personally in less than 24 hours by Deputy Director
Mark Lawley with an answer to our concern and the actions that were being taken to make sure
she would get her vaccine. The second incident was quite recent during the snowstorm. One of
our moms was without power for almost two days. We contacted Mayor John Gates, and within
hours we received communication regarding the situation. Not only did we receive an answer to
what was being done to restore power, but a genuine offer to help with lodging, food, or a
personal visit to our mom to make sure she was safe.
We want to thank both Deputy Director Mark Lawley and Mayor John Gates for actions taken at
a time when life has been turned upside down for many, including theirs.
