RE: APPROVE REMOVAL OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE ON COUNTY ROAD 3.5 AT
VISTA VIEW DRIVE
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the Board
that the existing Stop sign on County Road 3.5 controlling northbound traffic be removed, resulting
in a more recognizable traffic control situation at the intersection with Vista View Drive, to ensure
safety to the traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Board has determined that the removal of said traffic control device is
necessary for the protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works, be, and hereby is, directed to
remove the existing Stop sign on County Road 3.5 controlling northbound traffic, resulting in a
more recognizable traffic control situation at the intersection with Vista View Drive, to ensure the
safety of the traveling public, and said signs shall conform to the State Manual of Uniform Traffic
Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 12th day of July, A.D., 2021.

SUBJECT: Removal of Stop Sign at WCR 3.5 and Vista View
Dr.
Please place this request for the removal of a regulatory sign on the next available BOCC
agenda.
This request is for removing the northbound stop sign at the intersection of WCR 3.5 and Vista
View Dr.
PW will have someone in attendance at the BOCC meeting to answer any questions that may
come up.

Brief description of the problem/issue:
Public Works has received several complaints about the intersection of WCR 3.5 and Vista View Dr.
The complaints are in regards to the intersection having stop signs installed for 3 legs of the 4 legged
intersection. Southbound traffic entering the intersection is not currently controlled. This
configuration causes confusion to drivers, especially when southbound drivers do not stop and make
left turns in front of other traffic that is preparing to enter the intersection. An easy fix for this situation
is to remove the stop sign for northbound traffic to create a more recognizable intersection setup.
What options exist for the Board? (include consequences, impacts, costs, etc. of options):
- Approve the removal of the northbound stop sign and stop bar pavement marking (no cost impact)
- Approve the installation of a new stop sign for southbound traffic to make this intersection
controlled in all directions. ($250 for new sign installation)
- Leave the intersection as is (no cost impact)
Recommendation:
Staff recommends removing the existing northbound stop sign at this intersection to create a more
recognizable traffic control situation. A review of accidents at this intersection showed that there was
only two accidents at this location within the last 10 years. Both of these accidents would not have
been prevented by the changes proposed at this time.
