championship game on Saturday, May 1 at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs; and
WHEREAS, while both offenses were held scoreless throughout the majority of game, Windsor's
persistence paid off when a late -game assist from senior John Burnett set up senior midfielder Matt Hansen
to score the game's only goal and propel the Wizards to a 1-0 championship victory; and
WHEREAS, capturing the championship was the last of many unique feats for the Wizards this season.
Windsor was dominant in every game this year, posting an undefeated 14-0 record and shutting out nine
opponents; and
WHEREAS, most unique to this championship season was that it was a first for the boys soccer program
and head coach Phil Weiser who has led the team for 18 seasons; and
WHEREAS, any state championship is special but the first for a program is truly historic and reflective of
the team's desire to consistently improve through hard work, determination and teamwork — traits we
admire in all Weld County residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that today,
June 7, 2021, be known Windsor Wizards Day to forever commemorate the championship season and the
tremendous effort shown by players, coaches and parents in accomplishing the goal.
