There was a net decline in the Aid to Dependent Children caseload of 25 individuals. Aid to Needy Disabled cases increased by 6 while the Old Age Pension numbers declined by 12 individuals. An increased number of applications received in October indicates that the caseload may go up in November. The Department has experienced an increased load in Food Stamps since mid-September. 1,076 applications and reapplications were processed during September. Each ap- plication represents one family. This compares with 764 applications and reap- plications processed in the previous month. Sales of Food Stamps for those approved to purchase were 165 households more in October versus the prior month. Of the 538 applications approved in October, 43% were college student households, 20% low- income employed families, and 18% were families with the head of household unemployed. Public Assistance expenditures for October, excluding Old Age Pension, totalled $440,901. This amount was $6,149 less than the prior month but was $23,432 higher than the same month in 1973.
