To do so, they had to respond to early adversity, as Lutheran took a 10-0 lead; and WHEREAS, the Roughriders answered back. Seniors Ryan Doucette and Tucker Peterson each recorded first-half touchdowns to pull Roosevelt within three at halftime. In the second half, Roosevelt junior running back Xavier Ramirez scored two touchdowns. That effort, in addition to the willpower of a defense that kept Lutheran scoreless in the fourth quarter, gave Roosevelt the 34-24 victory; and WHEREAS, while Roosevelt's first -ever football state championship is special, equally commendable is the example that coaches, players and parents have set for the entire Johnstown/Milliken community. The accomplishments of this year prove that anything is possible when a goal is paired with a strong work ethic, determination and a willingness to work together. Know that the success of this season will serve as a lasting example to younger students who aim to achieve similar excellence in athletics or academics. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that the 13th day of December 2022, be known as Roosevelt Roughriders Day. Congratulations on a historic season.
