HomeMy WebLinkAbout20220666.tiffPROCLAMATION EATON REDS DAY MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2022 WHEREAS, Eaton High School's FFA Livestock Judging Team took 1st place at the State Livestock Judging Career Development Event (CDE) at Colorado State University on May 5, 2021; and WHEREAS, the Livestock Judging CDE helps students develop skills in live animal evaluation and selection. During the daylong event, participants evaluated eight classes of beef cattle, sheep, goats and swine according to which animal in each class would produce the best meat and/or offspring based on physical characteristics. Oral reasons, where participants defend why they ranked three classes of livestock a certain way, were also given in front of judges. Finally, team members completed a general knowledge exam covering various livestock industry -related topics; and WHEREAS, students who participate in the State Livestock Judging CDE gain a greater understanding of livestock management and production characteristics. FFA students serve as the future of our agricultural industry; and WHEREAS, the team of four, consisting of Tayla Wiedeman, Shae Stone, Chloe Stevens and Libby Schelich competed against 48 FFA Livestock Judging teams to garner 1St place at the state level. Eaton went on to compete at the National FFA Convention October 27-30, 2021, in Indianapolis, where the Reds took home team honors in the silver category as well as individual gold honors. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that February 28, 2022 be known as Eaton Reds Day in recognition of Eaton's state championship, participation at nationals, as well as the work ethic and knowledge put forth by the FFA advisor and students.
