Judging Career Development Event (CDE) at Colorado State University on May 2, 2022;
WHEREAS, the Horse Judging CDE helps students develop skills in live animal evaluation
and selection. During the daylong event, participants evaluated four classes of halter,
reining, ranch riding and equestrian horses according to which animal in each class
performs best and has the highest quality breed characteristics. Oral reasons, where
participants defend why they ranked a particular class of horses a certain way, were also
given in front of judges. Finally, team members completed a general knowledge exam
covering various horse industry -related topics; and
WHEREAS, students who participate in the State Horse Judging CDE gain a greater
understanding of livestock management and production characteristics. FFA students serve
as the future of our agricultural industry; and
WHEREAS, the team of four, consisting of Quirt Carroll, Grant Weaber, Mason Erickson
and Brayden Betsworth competed against 160 FFA Horse Judging teams to garner 1. place
at the state level. Eaton will now compete at the National FFA Convention October 26-29,
2022, in Indianapolis; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Weld County Board of County
Commissioners that in recognition of Eaton's state championship, participation at nationals,
as well as the work ethic and knowledge put forth by the FFA advisor and students,
October 24, 2022, be known as Eaton Reds Day.
