RE: APPROVE INCREASE OF CHANGE FUNDS FOR CLERK AND RECORDER'S
OFFICE, MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISIONS IN GREELEY, SOUTHEAST WELD
(FORT LUPTON), AND SOUTHWEST WELD (DEL CAMINO)
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, it has been recommended to the Board that the Change Fund in the Greeley
Motor Vehicle Division of the Clerk and Recorder's Office be increased by $1,000.00, and
WHEREAS, it has been recommended to the Board that the Change Fund in the
Southeast Weld (Fort Lupton) Motor Vehicle Division of the Clerk and Recorder's Office be
increased by $500.00, and
WHEREAS, it has been recommended to the Board that the Change Fund in the
Southwest Weld (Del Camino) Motor Vehicle Division of the Clerk and Recorder's Office be
increased by $500.00, and
WHEREAS, after review, the Board deems it advisable to increase said Change Funds at
the Clerk and Recorder's Office, Motor Vehicle Divisions in Greeley, Southeast Weld
(Fort Lupton), and Southwest Weld (Del Camino).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that the Controller, be, and hereby is, authorized to increase said Change
Funds in the Greeley Motor Vehicle Division by $1,000.00, and the Southeast Weld (Fort Lupton)
and Southwest Weld (Del Camino) Motor Vehicle Divisions by $500.00 each.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 20th day of June, A.D., 2022.

PASS -AROUND TITLE: Increase to Clerk & Recorder Change Funds

Brief description of the problem/issue:
Due to the ongoing cash shortages the motor vehicle offices are having a difficult time keeping an adequate
amount of coin on hand to make change on cash transactions. The shortages have increased to the point
where Wells Fargo is now limiting the number of coins that can be purchased daily.
What options exist for the Board? (include consequences, impacts, costs, etc. of options):
There is a large number of coins coming through the Treasurer's office from the Senior Nutrition centers and
work release program. Increasing the change funds at the motor vehicle offices would give those offices the
flexibility to purchase these coins when available from the Treasurer's office rather than purchasing them from
the bank where their purchases would limited and subject to bank fees.
Recommendation:
Our recommendation would be to increase the change fund in the Greeley motor vehicle office $1000, and
$500 in both the Southeast & Southwest office. These additional amounts would give the offices the flexibility
to purchase additional coin as well as cash on hand to make change for cash transactions.
This solution would also decrease the number of coins the County buys and sells the bank reducing bank fees
paid by the County.
