PROCLAMATION
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
SEPTEMBER 2022
WHEREAS, of the many things that make Weld County unique, the resilience and independence of our
residents in 32 municipalities to safely go about their day-to-day lives stands out; and
WHEREAS, emergency preparedness is a critical tool our residents can use to stay resilient against the
different types of emergencies they may face. In Weld County, emergency events can range from weather,
such as heavy rain and hailstorms to tornadoes, flooding and heavy snowstorms that can last through the
spring. Residents may also have to deal with fires or a hazardous material spill; and
WHEREAS, as the name suggests, National Preparedness Month was established to remind all Americans
about the importance of taking steps to increase their preparedness so that, in an emergency, they can take
the actions necessary to protect themselves and their families as well as pets and property; and
WHEREAS, preparing may mean practicing evacuation plans, developing preparedness kits with supplies to
stay safe and comfortable for 72 hours following an emergency, or sharpening knowledge of how to care for
a pet during an emergency. No preparedness plan should be exactly the same; the point is to prepare; and
WHEREAS, for those curious about how to start preparing for emergencies, Weld County Government has
many different resources available online. The resources can be found under the "Community Preparedness
Information and Guides" webpage at www.weldoem.com and in our "12 months of preparedness tips" on
our Public Information webpage under "departments" at www.weldgov.com. Residents can also follow the
county's Twitter and Facebook pages for emergency preparedness tips throughout the month of September.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that September
2022 is National Preparedness Month. We encourage all citizens to take time throughout the month to have
discussions about preparedness with their loved ones and take action to prepare for emergencies. By doing
so, we can become a safer, more resilient county.
