This letter is in reference to the New accessory structure located 15819 Nancy Avenue, Fort
Lupton, CO, known as the Rocha Barn_ Specifically, Review and/or observation of construction
related to frame, foundation adequacy.
Footings: The building was constructed on minimum of a six-inch (6") deep by sixteen -inch
(76") diameter round footing(s) at each post location, typically' eight feet (8' 0 `) on center
spacing. This spacing was expended to approximately fourteen feet (14'-0") at the bay door
location at the south wall. A review of the finished placement shows this condition to have
been met at the time of construction for all footing locations and specified sizes base on a
minimum soil bearing pressure of 1,500 psi. The wood (treated) post was set to bear on this
footing and "dead -man" blocks were installed at the bottom of the post for all locations.
Support Framing and Posts consisted of a 6x6 (5.5" square nominal) DF-L No I or better
pressure treated post spaced at a standard spacing of eight feet (S'41) on center with an
enlarged distanct, of fourteen feet (l4' p") at the bay, door location on the south wall. All posts
were placed to hear on the round footings as specified in the previous paragraph.
The posts were notch at the top to allow a single. 7 1•q" thick by 9 `z'deep 2.10E LVL (microlam
or equivalent) beam to bear. At any spaces between posts greater than eleven feet (11`-0") a
second I V x 9 ? :_" 2.0E LVL is added behind the continuous LVL and attached to that
continuous LVI. with three Rows of 16d nails spaced at 6 inches on center. The continuous
beam (notched into post) was attached at each post with a minimum of two each, 3" diameter
thru-bolts. These beams supported pre-engineered wood trusses spaced at four feet (4'-0") an
center. The post(s) exterior faces are braced with 2x6 llF No 2 minimum girts spaced vertically
at 2 feet (2'-0") on center. Truss top chords are braced by 2x4 FIF No 2 puffins spaced at sixteen
inches (16") on center with the bottom chords braced with the same material spaced at eight feet
(S'-(1") on center. A minimum of two toenails were provided at each truss -beam connection.
In reviewing all truss engineered component drawings (provided by BMC West), and, basing
all analysis on the design ii ads listed below, All frame and truss assemblies/connections are
adequate for this structure.
Top Chord Snow Load = 30 psi
Top Chord Dead Load = 5 psf
Bottom Chord Dead Load AN 4 pst
Wind Design Speed '7 115 mph (Vult) at Exposure C
In conclusion, the footings, framing, and trusses are erected and fastened adequately for the
design bads applied to tis structure, as specified for this area. If you have any questions with
respect to this letter, please, feel free to call.
Sincerely,
Brian]. Rusk, PE
