HomeMy WebLinkAbout20222518.tiffPROCLAMATION RE: EXPRESSION OF SUPPORT FOR THE SANCTITY OF LIFE OF THE UNBORN CHILD AND OF MOTHERHOOD WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, the Board has previously expressed and continues to express its support for the sanctity of life and opposition to abortion, specifically noting the rights set forth in the Colorado Constitution Bill of Rights, Article II, Section 3: § 3. Inalienable rights All persons have certain natural, essential and inalienable rights, among which may be reckoned the right of enjoying and defending their lives and liberties; of acquiring, possessing and protecting property; and of seeking and obtaining their safety and happiness. (Emphasis added.) WHEREAS, although the Colorado Constitution Bill of Rights contains no definition for the word "persons" as that term is used in Article II, Section 3, the Board believes a "person" who is entitled to the right "of enjoying and defending their lives and liberties," as guaranteed by Article II, Section 3, includes a human being, specifically including an unborn child in utero at any stage of development, regardless of viability, and WHEREAS, the Board believes it is the responsibility of every mother to protect and secure the right of the unborn child to enjoy and defend its life and liberties, as secured by the Colorado Constitution, Article II, Section 3, by taking measures and actions to ensure the mother's and baby's lives and health during pregnancy, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the Board hereby expresses its support for the sanctity of life protected by the Colorado Constitution Article II, Section 3, for every unborn child in Weld County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the following is a listing of various resources available in or near Weld County to encourage and support a mother to achieve her responsibility of securing the right of her unborn child to enjoy and defend its life and liberties, as secured by the Colorado Constitution, Article II, Section 3: prenatal services, counseling services, faith -based family services such as The Resource Center and Lutheran Family Services as well as adoption options and services for mothers with newborns such as housing and food assistance, child support services, and The Nurse Family Partnership, The Genesis Project of Northern Colorado, and the Guadalupe Community Center.
