HomeMy WebLinkAbout730657.tiff Board of Weld County Commissioners Greeley, Colorado 80631 October 24, 1973 To: Members of the Press From: The Board of Weld County Commissioners The Board has received several complaints about litter along the roads, especially those leading to the southwest Greeley Sanitary Landfill. The Weld County Sheriff's Department and the State Patrol have been asked to patrol the area more regularly, looking for trucks hauling uncovered trash which blows onto the roads and persons littering. When these offenses are observed we would like to see imposed the heaviest fines possible. The litter is an eyesore and can mean health and driving hazards. To those persons taking trash to the Landfills we recommend preventing the trash from blowing out of vehicles; we discourage passengers unlawfully throwing trash from cars; and dumping along the road is definitely forbidden. Anyone caught doing so may expect to face a stiff fine. We ask the people littering our roads to think of other people, how unsightly the trash is along the roads and how needless the destruction of our scenery is. Sincerely, 'Glenn K. Thomas Commanding Officer, Colorado State Patrol 201 14th Avenue Greeley, Colorado. 80631 Dear Captain Thomas, The roads leading to the Greeley Sanitary Landfill southwest of Greeley are littered with trash to a great extent--far greater than need be if signs were obeyed, statutes observed and fines enforced. We are requesting that your men patrolling that area do so watching especially for trucks hauling uncovered trash and persons littering and when these offenses are observed, a heavy fine should be imposed. The litter is an eyesore and can mean health and driving hazards. Can the law be enforced more regularly and strictly to prevent this unsightly littering?
