Dr. Medlock,
The Weld County Board of County Commissioners opposes the most recent geographic map that separates Weld from
the Eastern Plains Counties for the Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization (BHASO) regional area.
Weld County is a proud and collaborative partner with our neighboring counties to the east and we believe that
separating from these counties would have a negative impact on the individuals and families we serve.
There are natural collaborations based on client patterns that extend from Eastern Plains through Weld County. As the
northern anchor for front range growth, Northern Colorado is the economic and functional hub for development and
innovation in workforce and health care. Northern Colorado has an established health care delivery system
infrastructure that is patient -centric and provider -aligned that does not exist with the health care delivery system on
the Western Slope.
Our valued community partners have provided interconnected resources to Northern Colorado for over 40 years. These
partnerships can leverage the population size in the large counties to a payment and delivery system that serve the
smaller, less populated counties, ensuring all individuals in Northern Colorado have access to quality health care.
These partners, North Range Behavioral Health, SummitStone, Centennial Mental Health, Sunrise Community Health,
Salud Family Health Centers, Banner Health, University of Colorado Health and Kaiser Permanente provide a
continuum of health care services and are our valued colleagues. We share these colleagues with our friends and
neighbors on the Eastern Plains, which results in the united sense of community that is Northern Colorado.
We urge you to reconsider the BHASO regional map and to keep Weld County with the Eastern Plains Counties. To
separate the integrated and collaborative health care approach that has been refined over many years of partnership
would create undue hardship and stress to the individuals and families we jointly serve in Northern Colorado.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
