Mr. Glen Billings, Chairman
Board of County Commissioners
Greeley, Colorado
Dear Mr. Billings:
Since the Report and Analysis of Weld County Governmental Services
makes no dreastic recommendations for the Weld County Library, I feel
little comment is necessary. We were pleased to be included in the
survey, and we appreciate that it expresses several times the fact that
the need for expansion is already evident.
We realize, too, that other needs are even more pressing right now
and would make only this one suggestion. As indicated in the report,
federal matching funds have been available most years. They often are
allocated to the states so late in the fiscal year that it is difficult
to find libraries with plans far enough along to qualify. If the county
will be hiring an architectural firm to draw up the other larger plans,
would it be possible for them to include some preliminary library plans?
Then if money should become available suddenly some year, and if the
county could allow the comparatively small sum we will be needing, we
would be able to take advantage of the opportunity.
In any case, as long as federal funds are made available to public
libraries, I know we will have a high priority when we do apply. The
fact that we are both an Area Reference Center and serving as a System
Headquarters will put us at the top of the list.
May I also remind you that our "extra land mentioned is on a
twenty-five year lease from the city of which almost twelve years have
been used.
Sincerely yours, f
