This email is in reference to the Korwell land holdings USR 23-0018.
I think it's fairly obvious, no one wants a soil mine in their backyard. My particular backyard is already so
overburdened by commerce that if Korwel Soil Mine were to apply for an air permit today they would be
denied by the state. I make that statement based on the EPA region eight and CDPHE Memorandum of
Understanding on Advancing Environmental Justice through enforcement and compliance assurance
efforts in Disproportionately Impacted Communities. We are a significantly disproportionately impacted
community (DIC). One parameter of a DIC is air quality. I have attached a chart that shows my area is
under an air quality alert every single day! Adding more business, much much more traffic, and
significant dirt disturbance is only going to add to the air quality issue.
However, all of that being said, I the Korwell Soil Mine will still need to be approved by Weld County. If
that were to happen, my request is that all haul routes go north to County Road 42. County Road 42 is a
paved road which provides east west access and direct access to 185 and County Road 49, a.k.a. the
Kersey Road. I also request that Korwell construct a road from the northernmost section of the project
to County Road 35. That will bypass the feedlot and save the cattle from excessive dust. By using the
haul route on County Road 42 the fewest number of people will be impacted and have the least
negative effect on our dirt roads.
I am curious why Korwell is applying under different versions of the company name. On their state
application, there were three different names used throughout the application and now I see they're
going by Korwell land holding for this USR. My concern is at the end of the project they walk away doing
no reclamation because that company doesn't exist any longer or never entered into an agreement for
reclamation. Please explain the use of several names, and determine which will be used consistently.
