The Weld County Board of Health met on June 26, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. in the second -floor hearing
room of the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment and by via Microsoft Teams.
Those present included:
Board Members: Tom Cope, Doug Printz, Michael Wailes, Lonnie Ford, and Jeff Reck, Bree Lukens,
and Linda Kautz
Others: Katie Sall and Lauren Light from Environmental Health, Jason Chessher, Executive
Director, Weld County Department of Public Health & Environment, Mike Schwan, MS, RDN,
CSOWM. Health, Communication, Education, and Planning and Samantha Orozco- RN, BSN/MSN
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM. A motion was made by Tom Cope to approve the agenda.
Doug Printz seconded the motion, and the motion was carried unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The board approved the minutes of the May 22, 2023, meeting. A motion was made to approve by
Tom Cope and Doug Printz seconded the motion and the motion was carried unanimously.
ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT: Jason Chessher reported they are working on budget, looking
forward to 2024 budget to be approved don't expect to see any difference from this year.
Biosolids Renewal:
McDonald Farms Enterprises - Katie Sall presented 1 biosolid renewal application. No public
comment or concerns were received. Environmental Health recommends approval.

Presentations:
Mike Schwan, MS, RDN, CSOWM, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Health,
Communication, Education, and Planning — Farm program consist of working with childcare
centers and homes on teaching kids on gardening and how food is grown, we partner with Eaton
Highschool to use a small grant to purchase lumber to make garden beds for 12 childcare centers. We
deliver the gardening tools, plants, seeds & soils for them to use. It's great to be able to work & teach
children at a very young age. Kids are more excited to try nutritious foods that they help grow. Some
of the gardens are in Greeley, Ft Lupton, Firestone, Frederick area.
Samantha Orozco, RN, BSN/MSN, Clinical and Community Health Division Public
Health Nurse Coordinator, Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment -
Samantha oversees the Immunization Program, they offer child vaccines for kids from 36 weeks of
age to 18 years old, travel vaccines any required vaccines for traveling outside the country this is
self-sufficiency, immigration vaccines for those that are in process of legalizing their immigration
status, rabies vaccines and post exposure treatments, TB vaccines as well as treatments for active
symptomatic, affected by but not symptomatic. We work with private insured patients, Medicaid, and
underinsured clients.
Staff Discussion:
Lauren asked the board members what programs they would like to see presentations on, Tom
mentioned Rabies program is always interesting.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:33 am. Next meeting is July 25, 2023.
