Therapeutic Foster Care allows for extra support and resources to those families providing specialized foster care and helping to keep more youth with complex needs in a family setting rather than in a residential facility; and WHEREAS, this year a Weld County Therapeutic Foster Home, the Berrelez Family, is being recognized by the State as an exceptional foster family. Foster care month is an opportunity to raise awareness about our greatest needs for foster families being families for older children and youth, sibling groups, and children with special needs and to encourage citizens to bring help and healing to our county's most vulnerable children, youth and families by becoming a foster parent. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that May 2023 be known as Foster Care Month in Weld County. We call upon the citizens of Weld County to observe this month by taking time to encourage and support children and youth in foster and kinship care, and to recognize the commitment of those who touch their lives, especially honoring and celebrating foster and kinship parents and our dedicated child welfare professionals.
