Each time the Cardinals got close, Briggsdale answered. Behind the hot shooting of junior Jenna Krise who finished the game with 26 points, the Falcons led at halftime 33-18. In the second half, the Falcons' defense had an impact, forcing turnovers that enabled their lead to grow. McClave never recovered. Briggsdale won by a final score of 53-37 and earned the school's first -ever state championship; and WHEREAS, Briggsdale's championship win is historic. This team will forever be known as the first to bring athletic excellence to the school and community — a truly special recognition. And winning a state championship meant battling adversity. The Falcons had to beat the defending state champions in the semifinals as well as McClave, who was undefeated heading into the championship game. Briggsdale's stellar season speaks to the drive, character and talent of players, coaches and parents. We're proud of each of you and encourage you to never forget this feeling of success as you strive for other goals in life. I wanted to say congratulations to the team. What an amazing feat you have accomplished. For many years you have been working hard to achieve this great distinction, many times you have fallen just short. Not this year! You girls are such an amazing part of the Briggsdale community. You have spent countless hours in the gym's not only in your school but in places all over this state. You have shown tireless dedication. You are a team that has always been know for your excellent sportsmanship and how you have carried yourselves in a professional manner. Peyton, I have known you since pre-school when you and Ainslie went to school together. You two have been teammates and we couldn't have asked for a better teammate than you, I know your current team is feeling the same way. You have overcome many challenges and many surgeries. There have been times when your role was a support role from the bench because of injuries. I applaud you and your determination. Coach Collin, I want to say job well done! You have worked with these girls since they were little. You are an extremely good coach who expects greatness from his players, and you are willing to put in the time and effort to help then achieve that. Personally I want to thank you for having coached my daughter when she was younger. She has very fond memories of playing for you and with these girls here today. Way to represent the term "Coach" ih such an excellent manner. Congratulations Lady Falcons on your State Championship! Kevin Ross Weld County Commissioner. Hello
