ROOSEVELT ROUGHRIDERS DAY
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26, 2023
WHEREAS, the Roosevelt Roughriders girls basketball team competed in the Class 5A state
championship game on Saturday March 11, 2023, against Windsor at the Denver Coliseum; and
WHEREAS, in a competitive game, Roosevelt outlasted the Wizards to win 54-44 and earn the
first girls basketball state championship in school history; and
WHEREAS, much like their first meeting between Roosevelt and Windsor earlier in the season,
which was decided by two points, the championship game was just as competitive. Windsor held
20-15 halftime lead, but Roosevelt's offense made a statement in the second half, outscoring the
Wizards 20-8. The Roughriders were led by sophomore Ryanne Bahnsen-Price who had 13 points
in the win; and
WHEREAS, the championship won by the Roughriders symbolizes more than athletic excellence.
It speaks to a bond between teammates, coaches and parents that only they can fully appreciate.
What we as commissioners appreciate is the hard work, teamwork and commitment showed by
players, coaches and parents in pursuit of a state championship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that the
26. day of April 2023, be known as Roosevelt Roughriders Day to celebrate the Class 5A state
champions.
