Brief description of the problem/issue:
The 2023 replacement vehicle requests for the Sheriff's office bids were posted in late December. We
received 0 bids for the 9 patrol cars and 1 bid for the 3 pick up trucks. After the bid opening I reached out to
vendors asking why they did not bid on the patrol cars. I was informed by Ford and GM that the ordering
window had closed, and Dodge missed the bid posting opportunity entirely. I asked Johnston Auto Plaza if
they could send me a bid for the patrol cars. My discovery when communicating Johnsons Auto Plaza is that
the Dodge window is scheduled to close as early as Monday, Jan. 23 and that is our only option for 2023 SO
vehicles at this time.
What options exist for the Board? (include consequences, impacts, costs, etc. of options):
1. Purchase 3 Ram Pickups and 9 Dodge Durango SUVs with emergency approval
(sole bidder, and pricing is not out of line with what was expected)
Ram PU — 3 units requested @$44,275 per vehicle for a total of $132,825.00
Dodge Durango Pursuit — 9 units requested @$43,873 per vehicle for a total of $394,857.00
2. Prolong ordering vehicles — this will miss one year of vehicle purchases for the SO
Recommendation:
With BOCC approval, proceed with emergency purchases of the Dodge/Ram vehicles. This current issue has
been communicated with my Commissioner coordinator Kevin Ross as well as the Sheriff and leadership team
They are satisfied with this request.
