Weld County Board of Commissioners,
In March 2022, I asked you to support the Sheriffs Office in our endeavor to become part of the
Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) program. The agency was accepted into the project
and began our journey on June 6, 2022. The agency has spent the last 15 months getting multiple
deputies trained as instructors in the ABLE program and completing training for 95% of the agency. In
the coming months, the remaining 5% will complete the training. The ABLE program is now required
training for all new deputies during their in-house academy.
We could not be successful in our efforts to make Weld County a safer place, without the
assistance of our community partners and the amazing citizens who live here. Your support in helping
the Sheriffs Office get accepted into the ABLE program, and your continued support of the agency every
day, is a partnership we are proud to be a part of.
In the words of Sheriff Reams, "Committing to the ABLE standard supports our ongoing
endeavor to serve our community with honor and integrity, to ensure our deputies hold themselves and
each other accountable, and to reduce the risk of unnecessary harm to anyone. The ABLE Project is the
next step in our efforts to be the best law enforcement agency in the nation." Successfully
incorporating the ABLE program into the Sheriff's Office is a capstone in our efforts to live up to the
Sheriffs mission statement, "Providing effective public safety services with honor and integrity."
Respectfully,
Undersheriff Donnie Patch
