RE: ITEMIZED LIST OF LEGAL HOLIDAYS DURING CALENDAR YEAR 2024
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, following is a list of holidays proposed for 2024 as days off for Weld County
employees:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld
County, Colorado, that the list of holidays as set forth above shall be observed during the calendar
year of 2024 as days off for Weld County employees.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 21st day of August, A.D., 2023.

Brief description of the problem/issue:
Attached is the proposed schedule of holidays for calendar year 2024, as well as the rules for choosing the
appropriate days. The Resolution is drafted with the Clerk's recommendation to use the Floating Holiday
(Colorado Day) in conjunction with July 4, 2023 (Independence Day).
What options exist for the Board? Utilize the floating holiday (Colorado Day) in conjunction with July 4th
(Independence Day); OR select alternate date.
Consequences: Using the floating holiday in conjunction with July 4th, affords staff a 4 -day weekend
consistent with generally anticipated public closures.
Impacts: It is at the Board's discretion to select another holiday option.
Costs (Current Fiscal Year / Ongoing or Subsequent Fiscal Years): Budgeted staffing wages.
Recommendation: Direct Clerk to list Draft Resolution reflecting the Floating Holiday (Colorado Day) in
conjunction with July 4, 2023 (Independence Day).

Per Personnel Policy: If holiday falls on a Saturday — day off is on preceding Friday.
If holiday falls on a Sunday — day off is on following Monday.

Administrative Authorities have the discretion to grant requests for Cesar
Chavez Day (March 31) and Jury Appreciation Day (September 5) in lieu of
another holiday within the same fiscal year. When granting such requests, the
administrative authority should consider whether there will be work for the
employee to perform for the court or probation department on the recognized
legal holiday the employee has asked to work. If Jury Appreciation Day and
Labor Day are both on September 5, an employee will only be granted Labor
Day.
