The Weld County Board of Health met on February 28, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. in the second -floor hearing
room of the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment and by via Microsoft Teams.
Those present included:
Board Members: Tom Cope, Doug Printz, Fred Hepner, Jeff Reck, Michael Wailes, Lonnie Ford and
Bree Lukens.
Others: Lauren Light from Environmental Health, Luke Bond Denali Water Solutions, Jason
Chessher Executive Director, Eric Aakko Director of Health Education and Shaun May Director of
Public Health Services.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM. A motion was made by Tom Cope to approve the agenda.
Fred Hepner seconded the motion and the motion was carried unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The board approved the minutes of the January 24, 2023, meeting. A motion was made to approve
by Fred Hepner and Tom Cope seconded the motion and the motion was carried unanimously.
Biosolids New:
Denali Water Solutions- Lauren Light presented 1 new biosolid application. No public
comments or concerns were received. Environmental Health recommends approval. DS -2200001. A
motion was made by Fred Hepner to approve new biosolid. Doug Printz seconded the motion and the
motion was carried unanimously.

Biosolids Renewal:
Denali Water Solutions — Lauren Light presented 14 biosolid renewal applications. No public
comment or concerns were received. Environmental Health recommends approval.
DS -201105, DS -201108, DS -201203, DS -201204, DS -201314, DS -201321, DS -201326, DS -1800001,
DS -1800002, DS -1800003, DS -1800004, DS -1900004, DS -2100005 and DS -2100006.
A motion was made by Fred Hepner to approval the renewals. Tom Cope seconded the motion and
the motion was carried unanimously.
Presentations:
Eric Aakko — Director Health Education, Communication and Planning:
Eric announced the accreditation was approved for the next 5 years. We are 1 of 6 approved
for this in the State of Colorado. With this accreditation it helps us with getting grants and is
a good incentive for people to come work for us.
Shaun May — Director of Public Health Services:
Community Health Team — We have 5 nurses that work with our lit time mothers. Most
mothers have no insurance or are on Medicaid. We have a lot from our Hispanic population.
This program is 90% grant funded. We have 2 HCP nurses that help with and give support
with handicapped children from ages one to 4 years old here in Weld County.
Clinic Team- We have 20 people on this team, 13 nurses and support staff. This team works
with our local schools to make sure ALL students have access to current immunization
requirements. We work with all the school nurses and their parents to make sure that we
have proper consent to give any shot. We do about 12 to 15 outreach clinics per month with
our schools.
Travel Clinic- We work with local employers who have people that travel overseas to make
sure they get the proper immunization before they head out. These people pay us up -front for
our services.

Family Planning- We work with AIMS and UNC to have off -site clinics to help with HIV and
STD testing. We have a lot of classes with these universities on Sexual Health. Here in Weld
County, we have helped reduce teenage pregnancy by 60%. We also have a Women Wellness
Program that helps with FREE breast cancer screening prevention.
Staff Discussion:
We welcomed new member Michael Wailes to the Board of Health.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:42 am. Next meeting is March 28, 2023.
