HomeMy WebLinkAbout20231449.tiffPROCLAMATION MEMORIAL DAY - MAY 29, 2023 WHEREAS, on Memorial Day, the Board of Weld County Commissioners wishes to join the citizens of Weld County in honoring our Gold Star Families and the enormous debt of gratitude owed to our veterans who answered the call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our great Nation; and WHEREAS, Memorial Day was first observed on May 30, 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery and to this day still serves as a day to honor and remember members of our Armed Forces who gave their lives; and WHEREAS, Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance for those who died while serving our Country; and WHEREAS, The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that Monday, May 29, 2023, be known as Memorial Day. We ask that Weld County residents pledge to never forget those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defending our freedoms and express gratitude to the families of our fallen warriors.
